A few years ago, I became incredibly frustrated with the public education system.  The education was sub-standard, the teachers in the school district were disinterested and lackadaisical at best, and my child was clever enough to figure out how to work the system.  After a great deal of frustration, I moved him from public school to a private school I felt would be more in line with my values and afford a better education for my son.

The school was great!  The price was not.  Even with every available assistance, tuition remained a killer! I ended up finding FreedomProject Education (FPE).  This is an entirely online school, k-12, providing classical education based on Judeo-Christian values. It is 100% Common Core-free and is fully accredited by the National Association of Private Schools.

FreedomProject accepts no federal funds.  That results in their chasing donations, holding fundraisers and, yes, charging tuition.  Tuition varies based on how many classes the student takes but can be as much as $2,000 a year.

Paying tuition can be a bit off-putting, particularly when you are already paying property tax to, in part, subsidize the local public schools. It was a tough pill for me to swallow as well.  FPE’s tuition is less than that charged by any of the private schools in our area and the flexibility of being able to take vacations or to bring my son along on a business trip was fantastic.  All we had to do was let the school know in advance so he could do his schoolwork early or take his books with us.  As a business owner, I always have to take along my computer.  He could simply use it to access his classes and submit his homework. But he could also use a tablet – he doesn’t need a full-size computer.

My own experience with the school has been very positive.  There have been a couple of bumps in the road, but the school is very quick to resolve issues and welcome open, honest exchange. My child moved from behind his grade level in math to maintaining a high A in algebra.  Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of the education and the commitment of the instructors. I strongly support and recommend their program.

Whether you are a parent looking for a good alternative to the public school system or one that will work better with your lifestyle, you are philanthropist looking for a worthy charity to support with long-lasting effect, or you are concerned with education as a whole and want to help improve the available offerings for all of our children, I hope you will check them out.
